About Our Toys
Our Classic Toys and Traditional Games
and Active Role-Play have been made with two influences in mind; firstly, we wanted
to make toys inspired by real childhood favourites of the Medieval,
Tudor/Stuart, Georgian and Victorian historical ages; secondly, we believed that
to enable good imagination and safe role-play, modern day children needed good,
well-made and safe role-play props, ideally designed with a classic timeless
feel about them. Although these toys have such a classic appeal, they are modern
toys: designing and master making is ongoing and as new designs come into
production so our range gradually grows.
Over the last decade our toys have become greatly in demand with visitors to 100’s of British historic site visitor attractions, including Royal Palaces, Mighty Castles and internationally renowned Living History Experiences. The reason they are so popular is more than their pleasant design - we make them with as much care and attention as a child’s grandparent would devote to making them a keepsake.
Our Historic Swords
range has grown over the last few years as museum and historic site custodians
desired swords representative of real historic artefacts, but made to the same
quality as our classic toys - we have always remembered these are first and
foremost toys to delight children.
When talking to our customers they often say ‘these are the most beautiful of wooden swords’; in fact many hundreds of adults, young people and schools in Britain, Europe and North America, are now gathering their own collection of our ‘Historic Swords’.
With one of these toys in the hands of a child, a long past period in history will come alive, helping to encourage in them a real interest in history.
Our Sword
and Shield History Projects range has come about due to the requests from
many of our wholesale customers (historic castle custodians) - they wanted a toy
shield made with the same care as our other toys and they wanted it with one of
our distinctive toy swords. Not wanting to produce just another wooden shield
with screw fixed handle and screen-printed front - it had to be so much more -
development and play testing took over a year.
We have, however, made more than had been asked for; we have a toy with as much to offer in role-play value as it does in creative play value.
